IV ii Teachers as Educators

1. What is the role of teachers?

Teachers are path finders:Teachers are the path-finders of the nation. They prepare the royal road to a bright future. The skill and efficiency of the people, their reliability and sense of duty depend on the community of teachers.
Sathya Sai Baba, 22 May 1982

Teachers are the basis of the educational system:A teacher can be compared to a water tank and students to taps connected to it. As is the water in the tank, so is the water that comes from the taps. Therefore, the teacher must have a pure heart and virtues like adherence to truth, good conduct, duty, devotion and discipline, so that he can impart the  same to the students. He/She alone is a teacher in the true sense, who imparts these virtues to the students. If the teachers  are ideal, the system of education too would be ideal. If the teacher does not possess moral, ethical and spiritual values, the entire system of education will go astray.
Sathya Sai Baba, 29 Sep 2000

The teacher is the most important asset of the school. Brick and mortar do not make a school efficient and useful. Nor are books in the library or appliances in the laboratory, so essential. The teacher makes the school or mars it. He is all the books you need; he is the most desirable appliance. He shapes the manners, behaviour, attitudes and even prejudices of the pupils under his care. So he has a big responsibility.
Sathya Sai Baba, 2 Mar 1970

Teachers are sign-posts: The teacher should serve as a signpost for the community. The student determines the future of the nation. Together, they help to promote the greatness and welfare of the nation. Both students and teachers should realize that their welfare is bound up with the well-being of the society as a whole.
Sathya Sai Baba, 9 Feb 1984

Teachers are like guide-posts. It is only when you play this role well that you will have done your duty to the boys and girls to divinize their lives.
Sathya Sai Baba, 21 Jul 1994

Teachers  are the people who indicate the royal road for human life.
Sathya Sai Baba,21 Jul 1994

Teachers are sculptors:  A sculptor converts a block of stone into a beautiful idol. Language expresses the feeling in appropriate speech. Character takes a man on the righteous path. It is the teacher who moulds the children into exemplary human beings.
Sathya Sai Baba,21 Jul 1994

Teachers! You have the responsibility for reshaping the future of children.
Sathya Sai Baba, 21 Jul 1994

Teachers can gift success and happiness: The virtue of teachers is reflected in their pupils; their faith inspires the young. Whether people waste their lives and ruin the lives of others by means of barren pursuits or whether people lead happy lives promoting the happiness of others---the answer lies in the hands of teachers.
Sathya Sai Baba, 22 May 1982

Teachers can make or break society:  The profession of a teacher is the most responsible one in every country. If the teacher strays from the path of truth, the entire society will suffer. So you must make every effort to live your life uprightly.
Sathya Sai Baba, 25 Jul 1978

A bad teacher will spoil the lives of many generations of students.
Sathya Sai Baba, 21 Jul 1994

The teacher has to bear the responsibility of promoting the welfare of the world or bringing the world down to disaster.
Sathya Sai Baba, 25 Jul 1978

Teachers impact health of students:  They have to bear a major share in fostering and preserving the mental and physical health of their tender, innocent wards.
